The ability to predict component lifetimes more accu- rately has already extended operational periods between maintenance. This will continue to improve in terms of the amount of advanced warning available, enabling, for exam- ple, gas transport vessels to make another voyage before docking for a service. In addition, as further refinements are made to data analysis methods and technologies, it will be possible to focus on other wearing parts and provide more accurate estimates of service life. This will enable the most timely replacement of these components, minimising costs and downtime. As more technical expertise is gathered and algorithms are developed further, operators will be able to request cus- tomised solutions specific to their applications and require - ments. In part, this will depend on a greater volume of data being collected. However, as more operators appreciate the benefits of the global data pool and become willing to con - tribute anonymous information, the wider population will realise the advantages of predictive maintenance, such as improved performance and efficiency. Summary Traditional maintenance, delivered by the OEM or other field service experts, will of course remain a day-to-day requirement. However, recent developments in data analy- sis, cloud-based technologies, and wireless communica- tions have enabled advanced remote support solutions to be developed by manufacturers. These offer numerous

benefits, including rapid diagnosis for equipment in remote locations and greatly improved predictive maintenance strategies backed by in-depth design and application knowledge. In conclusion, the development of digital services for improved maintenance of reciprocating compressors has greatly reduced response times for unplanned mainte- nance and minimised costs, even in the most challenging times. With instant access to compressor data, improved productivity, and expert support, digital technologies are revolutionising the maintenance processes employed in the petrochemical industry. The ability to reduce costs while having a positive impact on the carbon footprint of an operation highlights how advanced analytics and digital technologies can also sup- port sustainability and financial goals.
