balance, maintaining process efficiency and effective energy utilisation (see Figure 4 ). Moreover, this single-step process of HP- Coat will reduce Capex by 30% and carbon emissions by 20% by eliminating fractionation and hydrogenation steps. Scale-up of technology Realising the potential of HP-Coat and the pilot study, the scaling-up process to 80 KTPA has been carried out. The basic design engineering package and detailed engineering have been completed for the 80 KTPA plant demonstration unit. The unit is under construction at the HPCL Vizag refinery. Conclusion The demand for petrochemical monomers such as ethylene, propylene, butylenes, and BTX is on the rise globally. This presents a significant opportunity for refiners. Despite the ongoing transition, oil and gas will continue to play a crucial role in the Indian economy over the next three decades. HPCL has developed a cost-effective
technology to convert crude oil directly to high-value petrochemicals feedstocks. This can produce >40 wt% yield of light olefins and BTX. HP-Coat uses indigenously developed hardware and internals such as SprayMax feed injection nozzles and HeliPack stripper packings, which further increase the performance and reliability of the technology. The single-step process will reduce Capex by 30% and carbon emissions by 20%.
